Trade Unions in the European Union: Confronting Challenges of Diversity

View video of a lecture by Monica Bielski Boris, Assistant Professor of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois.

Lecture abstract: European labor/trade unions have rich and varied traditions for addressing issues of diversity including gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. What has been the impact of the adopted organizational policies and practices such as identity group caucuses and proportional leadership representation? How have unions within the European Union coordinated these efforts and dealt with an increasingly diverse workforce? This talk explored these questions and open discussion on the role of trade unions and workplace diversity in Europe.
