Illinois Journalism Students Interviewed about Trip to Turkey

To deepen their understanding of Muslim societies, nine journalism students from the University of Illinois reported from Turkey under the direction of Professor Nancy Benson and with the advice of the IHT’s Susanne Fowler.

The students, who acted as foreign correspondents from the US, published their reports online via a blog and  Twitter account. Recently, the International Herald Tribune published two of the articles from the trip.

On June 13, students Lindsay Prossnitz and Caroline Pahl, who participated in the study abroad trip, appeared alongside Professor Nancy Benson and journalist Ash-har Quraishi of "Chicago Tonight," who accompanied them on part of the trip, to discuss their experiences in Turkey.

Watch the interview below or visit the Chicago Tonight page to learn more about the students' trip to Turkey, and tune into WTTW this fall to see the broadcast of some of their reports.

This University of Illinois international reporting field program is funded by the Social Science Research Council (SSRC). The SSRC grant was awarded to the Centre for Global Studies, a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center (NRC), who collaborated with several UIUC units including the European Union Center, on this grant.
